Midsummer Madness

Nature is in her manic phase again:
the bushes are aflame with wild roses,
the tree by the kitchen door exposes
nipples of apples to the summer rain.
The whip-poor-will, crazed like a soul in pain,
sits on the wall each night and imposes
through sun-drenched layers of deep reposes
his never, never ending refrain.
The swallows nesting in cliffs by the sea
dart about frantically tending their young.
The waves pound the sand, the winds are gusting,
while between the rocks, entirely free
of clothing which has been hastily flung,
tanned young lovers are joyously lusting.
